The Auburn Tigers have struggled mightily this season, and last week’s 20-13 loss to Georgia at Jordan-Hare Stadium dropped the team to 5-5 this season with two games left.

On the bright side, the Auburn defense held the Bulldogs to just 243 total yards and one of Georgia’s touchdowns came on special teams. The Tigers also moved the football effectively on the ground with 213 rushing yards against one of the SEC’s toughest defenses. However, three turnovers killed the Tigers and the quarterback position is still an issue.

Jeremy Johnson (710 passing yards, 6 TD, 7 INT) is expected to start at QB for the third straight game, and he’ll need to take better care of the football and stretch the field better than he did last week (61 yards on 14-for-22 passing). Although, despite the losses this year, the Auburn offensive line has been better than expected and the Tigers have a solid one-two punch in Peyton Barber (900 rushing yards, 12 TD) and Jovon Robinson (343 rushing yards, 1 TD over the last three weeks).

Idaho has allowed at least 47 points in three straight games – all losses – and the Vandals have surrendered an average of 41.8 points and 488.9 total yards per contest. That should bode well for an Auburn offense that hasn’t scored more than 26 points in a game over the last three weeks and has been held under 20 points twice during that span.

Late season matchups with non-conference cupcakes are typically difficult for SEC teams because motivation is often lacking. But Auburn needs a win badly. First of all, a victory would secure a bowl bid for the Tigers. And, after losing three of their last four games, an Auburn win would provide some much needed momentum heading into next week’s rivalry clash with Alabama. Expect the Tigers to bring their A game, and to blow out Idaho.
