  • Career Record: 201-77-10
  • 6 SEC Championships, One national championship
  • Bowl Record: 8-10-2
  • Honors and Awards: Bobby Dodd Coach of the Year (1976), “Bear” Bryant Lifetime Achievement Award (2010), 5x SEC Coach of the Year, Florida-Georgia Hall of Fame, College Football Hall of Fame (1994)

Vince Dooley spent his entire head coaching career with the Georgia Bulldogs, and is still a revered name around Athens, Georgia and to the entire Bulldog Nation.

In 25 seasons at Georgia Dooley averaged an incredible eight wins per year in an era when most teams only played nine to ten games per season for many years. He was 3-0 against the legendary coach Bobby Dodd and, ironically, was the very first recipient of the Bobby Dodd Coach of the Year award in 1976.

Dooley simultaneously held the post of Athletic Director as well as head football coach from 1970 until his retirement from coaching in 1988, and then continued on as AD at Georgia until 2004. During his time as Georgia’s AD, the school won an unprecedented 78 team SEC championships and 23 national championships.

At the time of Dooley’s retirement in 1988, he was the second-winningest coach in SEC history behind only Bear Bryant. He is one of only 81 coaches in the history of college football to reach the 200-win mark.
