Allen is from the state of Arizona, and although he never considered Arizona out of high school, this could be a very intriguing option. He would be coming back, just about two hours away from home, in a Rich Rodriguez offense that would fit his talents. Rodriguez is building a good thing down in Tucson, coming off a Pac-12 South Championship in 2014, although the program slide to a 6-6 record in 2015.
Another good thing going for Arizona? Allen’s girlfriend is an Arizona Wildcat, and the two are constantly making trips back and forth to each other. While it might seem ludicrous to choose a school based on a college girlfriend, we’ve seen it before, and love makes you do crazy things.
A big problem with Arizona, is the quarterback depth. They’ll have starting quarterback Anu Solomon for at least two more years, and their redshirt freshman quarterback Brandon Dawkins showed big time potential when he was asked to play vs. Arizona State.
Solomon has proved to be very injury prone, but Dawkins is who the quarterback coaches have raved about.
Those two, in combination with their 2016 recruiting class, could make this a crowded competition, that Allen might want to avoid. Khalil Tate will be enrolling early at Arizona, and he’s the No. 5 dual-threat quarterback in the nation. Devon Modster checks in as the No. 11 dual-threat quarterback, giving Rodriguez a heavy dose of mobile quarterbacks.
