Like Key, LSU safety Jamal Adams is a star for the Tigers with an NFL future, but isn’t yet eligible to jump to The League. The NFL’s loss is LSU’s gain as the Tigers should have one of the toughest units in the SEC – and perhaps the nation – in 2016.
LSU ranked No. 5 in the SEC in total defense last season having allowed an average of 347.2 total yards per game. However, the Tigers suffered against the pass, and ranked No. 12 in the league by allowing an average of 224.3 passing yards per contest – inflated by the 370 passing yards the Tigers surrendered to Texas Tech in the Texas Bowl.
Nevertheless, the LSU secondary is one of the most gifted units in the SEC heading into 2016, and Adams is one of its most talented players.
A Freshman All-American as a part-time starter in 2014, Adams made 12 starts as a sophomore last season and recorded 67 tackles, five tackles for loss, and four interceptions to earn second team All-SEC honors. The 6-foot-1, 211-pound playmaker also broke up six passes, forced one fumble and recovered another.
