1999 – Virginia Tech Hokies

Tell-Tale Lyric: They say two thousand zero, zero
Party over
Oops, out of time
So tonight I’m gonna party like it’s 1999

1999 is probably one of the most recognized and often-quoted Prince songs, and it probably holds some special meaning for the folks in Lane Stadium.

That was the year Michael Vick took the Hokies all the way to the national championship game, and since Vick’s departure to the NFL, the Hokies haven’t quite been the same.

Yes, they’ve had some good teams and some stellar defenses (not to mention special teams players), but they haven’t been able to put together a season since the famed 1999 campaign. The 29-46 loss to Florida State on Jan. 4, 2000 was the “party over” signal for the Hokies.

Not every team has a season like that to remember, and some day the Hokies hope to once again party like it was 1999. The only sad part is that they’ll have to do it without the now-retired Frank Beamer.
