Myles Garrett has a chance to be the second defensive end from the SEC to go first overall in the last four years, joining Jadaveon Clowney who went to the Houston Texans  in 2014. He’s also got a chance to only be the fifth defensive end since 1977 to go No. 1 (Mario Williams, Courtney Brown, Bruce Smith).

Garrett posted an SEC freshman record with 11 sacks two years ago and followed that up with 11.5 last year. His tackles for loss numbers saw a big increase from 12.5 to 19.5 as he played every down compared to his freshman year when he wasn’t as involved in stopping the run.

At 6-5, 262-pounds, Garrett has the prototypical size for a 4-3 defensive end but he’s so freakishly athletic and agile that he can be an outside linebacker in a 3-4 defense for teams picking high in next year’s draft.

Look for Garrett to approach 25 tackles for loss and 15 sacks as a junior and get the same type of pre-draft comparisons and hype that Clowney received. Let’s just hope Garrett doesn’t have the same issues that dogged Clowney in his final year at South Carolina and the injuries that have plagued him in the NFL.
