1. Cam Akers

  • Clinton, MS
  • 247Sports Composite Ranking: 16
  • Position Ranking: No. 2 running back

Akers, a five-star recruit and the top uncommitted running back in the class, played quarterback in high school. With that in mind, that did not stop his running prowess as he gave defenses fits in high school. He is very difficult to catch, and if a defender cannot tackle him right away, good luck catching him.

Last season, Akers proved he could do it all. He passed for 2,331 yards, 20 touchdowns, and eight interceptions and ran for 1,418  yards and 16 touchdowns on 16 attempts.

Receiving 31 offers in total, he is a valued commodity and rightfully so. As of right now, Ole Miss appears to be the overwhelming favorite with Ohio State and Georgia in a neck-and-neck race for second. Most recently, he visited the Bulldogs on May 28.

I see Akers staying in-state and going to Ole Miss. They have the type of offense that can get it going in a hurry, and that would fit well with Akers’ play-style. The program has recruited very well in the state of Mississippi and I expect the good mojo to continue.

Prediction: Ole Miss
