College Football: Top 25 breakout players for 2016
This offseason, Ohio State lost some major talent on both sides of the ball.
The Buckeyes had an NFL-record of 12 draftees this past year’s NFL draft and nine of them were underclassmen. One of the biggest holes that have to be filled is the gap that former running back Ezekiel Elliot left.
Last year for Ohio State, Elliot rushed for 1,823 yards and 21 touchdowns. And the man who seems most likely to fill the hole Elliot left is redshirt freshman Mike Weber.
Weber is a powerful back who recorded 38 yards and two touchdowns on eight carries during the Buckeyes’ spring game.
While having an impressive outing in Ohio State’s spring game, Weber has been earning high praise from the likes of starting veteran center Pat Elflein.
“Mike has taken the initiative , taking care of his body on his own and eight right,” Elflein told the Columbus Dispatch.
Also with Ohio State dismissing senior Bri’onte Dunn, Weber is more likely to be the feature back for the Buckeyes in 2016.
