Ranking the 50 best college football players for 2016
Known for developing elite wide receivers, Clemson has yet another in the form of junior wide receiverMike Williams. He is a former second-team All-ACC performer who looked like one of the nation’s premier wide receiver after his sophomore season, racking up big-time numbers.
Williams was on just about every receiver watch list to begin the 2015 season, but a broken bone in his neck suffered in week one forced him out for the remainder of the year and he was subsequently redshirted.
Putting up solid numbers as a true freshman in 2013, the 6-foot-4, 220-pounder from South Carolina looked to be the next big threat on the outside, following the footsteps of Sammy Watkins. He caught 20 passes for 316 yards and three touchdowns, but you could tell the potential was there — especially with his size.
As a sophomore, he caught 57 passes for 1,030 yards and six touchdowns. That was his expected breakout campaign and his junior year was supposed to be a monster one before he suffered that devastating injury. Now that he’s back and healthier than ever, he might just smash his previous career-bests.
A Deshaun Watson to Mike Williams connection will be talked about plenty this year.
