Big 12 Football: Week 1 Power Rankings
By VF Castro
No. 5 Oklahoma State Cowboys
Let me preface by saying Oklahoma State and Tech are almost tied for the No. 4 and No. 5 spots. But for the Cowboys–a Top 25 team–playing the Southeastern Louisiana Lions from the Southland Conference is a bit underwhelming, regardless of the score.
While the total yards of offense between the Lions and the Cowboys were 203 and 392 yard respectively, one major statistic I found to be a bit concerning was in the rushing totals. Oklahoma State amassed 142 rushing yards compared to the Lions’ 97.
Despite the 67-7 final score, this game left a lot to be desired. However, with Central Michigan and Pittsburgh visiting Stillwater in the next two weeks, I think we see a lot of the same production. This is great for the Cowboys, as it gives ample time to work out the kinks before Big 12 play. But once again, it does nothing for strength of schedule debates that might come up later in the season.
