College Football Rankings 2016: Projected AP Top 25 after Week 3
By Zach Bigalke
For most of Houston’s first true road game against Cincinnati, the Cougars traded punches with the Bearcats. The Thursday-night game was tied 10-10 at halftime, and the only points in the third quarter came off a Houston safety. Then the Cougars nabbed interceptions on three straight Cincinnati drives, returning two for touchdowns, and the visitors ran away with an easy victory in the end. The victory sets up the Cougars as the clear favorite in the AAC West, and eliminates one of the toughest conference opponents they were going to face this season.
But this is hardly the last test for Tom Herman’s team. The Cougars have to face Navy in Annapolis on October 8, and they’ll also take to the road to face Texas State, SMU, and Memphis. Houston also gets the chance to play ACC favorite Louisville in November, in what could line up to be a College Football Playoff quarterfinal of sorts if both teams remain on dominant form.
