2. West Virginia Mountaineers (Record: 2-0)

True to the past two Power Rankings, it’s hard to deny undefeated teams as the highest ranking teams in the conference. And with that, the Mountaineers have played well thus far, but have yet to play an opponent (and put up the numbers) that would insert itself into conference title discussion.

With a “bend, don’t break” defense, and fresh off a bye headed into a short week against a lethargic BYU team, a 3-0 start is the expectation. But on neutral territory, don’t expect BYU to hand deliver a win. This could get gritty.

If West Virginia wants to stay atop most rankings boards, it’s going to have to put up a breakaway point differential early, and establish dominance. Otherwise, at least until Dana Holgorson’s team visits Texas Tech on Oct. 15, we’ll keep having the same conversation.

Next Game:

Sat, Sep 24 West Virginia vs. Brigham Young Landover, Md.
