San Jose State Spartans at Iowa State Cyclones (Saturday/12:00 pm)

Already this year Iowa State has lost at home by five points to FCS Northern Iowa in their season opener. They’ve also been obliterated by Iowa and TCU in their other two games. The Cyclones don’t pass the ball effectively, they can barely run the ball, and the defense gives up three touchdowns more per game than the offense can score. In short, Matt Campbell’s first season in Ames has been a trying ordeal for a coach who had become accustomed to winning at Toledo.

San Jose State honestly hasn’t been much better this season, going 1-2 with their only win coming against FCS Portland State. The one thing working in the Spartans’ favor, though, is the fact that they can at least score some points. Both teams have abysmal defenses, but San Jose State has a better offense to take advantage of their opponent’s deficiencies. As one of the 10 least-penalized teams in the country, the Spartans won’t ruin their upset chances by taking costly flags.
