After knocking off Oregon at home last weekend, Nebraska started slowly in their Big Ten opener at Northwestern. The Cornhuskers eventually built up a two-score lead in the third quarter. Northwestern tried on several occasions to engineer a comeback, but the Huskers defense clamped down and prevented the Wildcats from gaining any more traction. Tommy Armstrong Jr. finished with 246 passing yards and another 132 rushing yards in the double-digit win.

With Illinois, Indiana, and Purdue in the next three weeks, the Cornhuskers should be 7-0 when they meet up with Wisconsin in Madison on October 29 in a game that is likely to decide the Big Ten West this season. Nebraska has two other tough road trips, a November 5 visit to Columbus to face the Buckeyes and the regular season finale against Iowa. If they continue to win, however, there’s no way that the Huskers will remain this far down the AP Top 25.
