After falling to Ohio State in Week 3, the Sooners had the opportunity to rest and recuperate this weekend. If Bob Stoops’ team didn’t fall out of the AP Top 25 after dropping to 1-2 on the season, they’re not about to tumble out this week despite still sitting under .500 a quarter of the way through their season. Right now they hardly look like a Top 25 team though. The Sooners are ranked 51st in scoring per game and 94th in points allowed, hardly champion-caliber stats.

We will know a lot more about the Sooners in the next few weeks. On the first Saturday of October they head to Fort Worth to take on TCU, and another loss there would set back Oklahoma’s Big 12 dreams and eliminate them from College Football Playoff contention. Baker Mayfield has looked fine at quarterback, but neither Joe Mixon nor Samaje Perine has stepped up as a featured back. Combined with some lax defense, the Sooners are barely clinging to their spot in the AP Poll.
