College Football Rankings 2016: Projected AP Top 25 after Week 5
By Zach Bigalke
Entering the season, Aggies coach Kevin Sumlin seemed to be on the hot seat. The risk to his job security has significantly decreased after a perfect start to the season continued in Columbia on Saturday. Texas A&M didn’t play a perfect game on the road, but they were efficient on third downs and managed to keep drives going enough to prevail by 11. Trevor Knight threw for only 204 yards and an interception, but he was part of a backfield effort that netted 216 yards and three scores.
The next three weeks will determine whether Texas A&M is in position to contend for the SEC this season. The Aggies welcome Tennessee to Kyle Field next weekend, then have a bye week before heading to Tuscaloosa to face the top-ranked Crimson Tide. Having started conference season early, A&M also still has non-conference games against New Mexico State and UT-San Antonio to ease the stress levels over the next two months.
