College Football Rankings 2016: Projected AP Top 25 after Week 5
By Zach Bigalke
When Florida State scored a go-ahead touchdown with 23 seconds remaining, it appeared that they had escaped a damning second loss. Then North Carolina worked its way down to the FSU 37, where Nick Weiler drilled a 54-yard field goal as time expired to steal the win back for the Tar Heels. While Deondre Francois threw for 372 yards and Dalvin Cook had another big game on the ground, the defense left the Seminoles playing from behind all game long.
While losing to Louisville on the road didn’t do too much damage to Florida State’s standing in the AP Top 25, they are likely to plummet down the poll when it is released tomorrow. Now sitting in fourth place in the ACC Atlantic standings behind not just Clemson and Louisville but also Wake Forest, the Seminoles will be lucky to maintain a spot in the rankings. The trip to Miami next week becomes a must-win if FSU hopes to have any shot at remaining relevant in 2016.
