Heisman Trophy Watch 2016: Top 5 candidates after Week 5
If you’re Greg Ward Jr. you have to be pretty happy with how well your team is playing, as a whole, through five weeks. Heck, Houston won a game against an inferior opponent, though, in shutout fashion a few weeks ago without Ward. He was injured for a week and still, his team got the job done.
As long as Houston keeps winning, which it doesn’t look like it’ll stop any time soon, the Cougars are going to be playoff-bound. Tom Herman has lost just one game as the head coach of this programs in almost a season and a half. He took over the program last year and has become the hottest head coaching commodity out there.
Back to Ward. When he’s been healthy this season, he has played incredible football. In four games, he has three 300-yard performances and he rarely makes poor decisions.
The only game in which he struggled to hold onto the ball was Cincinnati in which he threw a touchdown pass and two interceptions. It was his first game back from injury and he was still rusty, but managed to throw for 326 yards with a 67 percent completion rate.
Ward has passed for 1,325 yards with eight touchdowns and two picks and a 70 percent completion rate while also rushing for 178 yards and five touchdowns. This guy is a beast.
