College Football Rankings 2016: Projected AP Top 25 after Week 7
By Zach Bigalke
What Washington has done over the past fortnight is frankly quite scary. The Huskies obliterated Stanford with defense, then poured on the offense against Oregon. It was as if Chris Petersen’s crew was taunting the two teams that have dominated the Pac-12 recently by beating them both at their own game. The defense is currently ranked sixth nationally in points allowed, giving up slightly more than two touchdowns per game. The offense is even better, ranking fifth nationally with more than seven touchdowns per game.
The versatile Pac-12 frontrunner could soon vault into the top four spots in the AP Top 25 if they keep winning. Out of the bye week the Huskies host Oregon State, then head to Utah to close out October. November games against California, USC, and Arizona State could be mere prelude before one of the biggest Apple Cups in recent memory. With Washington State also playing strong football and upsetting their Pac-12 North rivals, the two Evergreen State schools are on course for a showdown of ranked teams that could ultimately decide the division winner.
