The Sooners got into a shootout against Texas Tech on Saturday night, with the two teams combining for more than 1700 total yards of offense and 125 points. Baker Mayfield, playing against his former team, threw for 545 yards and seven touchdowns. Joe Mixon rushed for 251 yards and two scores. The Sooners secondary allowed over 700 passing yards to Patrick Mahomes, who set several NCAA records in defeat. On a night where the Red Raiders ran over 100 plays, Oklahoma’s defense did just enough to allow its team to remain unbeaten in Big 12 play.

Oklahoma’s loss to Ohio State looks better with each passing Buckeyes victory. The loss to Houston looks a bit worse after the Cougars took their second defeat of the year at sub-.500 SMU. But Bob Stoops’ team is still in the thick of the Big 12 race, tied with Baylor and West Virginia atop the league standings. The Sooners finish the month at home against Kansas, then turn around on a short week to play a Thursday night game at Iowa State. The regular season closes with the trifecta of Baylor at home, West Virginia in Morgantown, and the Bedlam finale against Oklahoma State in Norman.
