College Football: 10 Highest Paid Coaches in NCAA in 2016
10. James Franklin, Penn State
Total Annual Salary: $4.5 Million
Penn State’s upset over #1 Ohio State, who was seeking their 21st straight road victory, could not have come at a better time. After leading Vanderbilt to consecutive nine-win seasons in college football and two Top-25 rankings, Penn State was able to pry James Franklin away in 2014.
The immediate results in a depleted Big 10 were underwhelming, to say the least. Franklin led Penn State to two straight 7-6 seasons, while failing to spend any significant time in the rankings. That — combined with a 1-1 bowl record — left some Penn State faithful with significant doubts. Many, though, had those doubts erased after that victory.
James Franklin has led the Nittany Lions to a 5-2 record thus far this season and is sitting at 24 in the rankings. He’ll need to have many more days like Saturday if he wants to continue being compensated so well. It isn’t a stretch to think Penn State could win 9 games this season, especially considering the Nittany Lions could be favored in every remaining game.
