The Nittany Lions took care of business at home against Iowa to maintain momentum after their upset of Ohio State. Saquon Barkley had 211 total yards from scrimmage, catching one touchdown pass and rushing for another. Trace McSorley was efficient at quarterback for Penn State, throwing for 240 yards and two scores while completing 61 percent of his passes. And the PSU defense was stout against the run, allowing the Hawkeyes to rush for just 30 yards on 26 carries.

The AP voters had Penn State ranked far lower than the CFP committee had them. While they were 20th in the media poll, the playoff deliberators had the Nittany Lions all the way up at 12th. While the win over Iowa, coupled with the defeats around them in the AP Top 25, will probably cause Penn State to get closer to that top dozen in the standings, they will likely still remain behind a few teams that they will still be in front of when the CFP group releases its second set of rankings on Tuesday evening.
