Texas A&M was at the heart of the first big debate revolving around the College Football Playoff this season, as the committee ranked them in the top four ahead of Washington. The AP, meanwhile, had them at seventh last week. All of that means little if you can’t keep winning, though, and the Aggies were the victim of the first big upset of Week 10. Starting quarterback Trevor Knight was injured early, and Kevin Sumlin’s defense gave up 365 rushing yards to the Bulldogs as they suffered their second straight conference defeat.

As a result the Aggies are sure to plummet down the AP Top 25 as well as the CFP rankings. The committee might be more forgiving than the pollsters, though losing to an unranked team with a sub-.500 record will have far more impact than losing to the top-ranked team in the country. The defeat knocks Texas A&M out of the SEC West race barring a total Alabama collapse (A&M needs the Tide to lose all three of its final SEC games to win the division), and they will probably fall to the 15-20 range in both the CFP rankings and the AP poll this week.
