The Crimson Tide went into the house of Nick Saban’s former team and knocked off LSU on Saturday night. The showdown was heavy on defense, as the two teams played the first FBS game of the season to remain scoreless through the first half. Alabama managed to eke out 10 points in the second half, and they held LSU scoreless for the first time in two seasons. In the process they remained locked in atop a deep SEC West.

The defending national champions are locked in at number one in both the AP Top 25 and the CFP rankings as long as they keep winning. With 60 of the 61 first-place votes on the AP ballots over the past few weeks, the Crimson Tide have been head and shoulders over every other playoff contender in the eyes of the pollsters. Saban’s crew has met every challenge this season, and after surviving the LSU test it looks like the only other chance for their season to derail will come in the Iron Bowl against top-ten Auburn.
