College Football Rankings 2016: Projected AP Top 25 after Week 11
By Zach Bigalke
Against a South Carolina team that had won three straight to climb above .500 in the standings, Florida took care of business for a workmanlike 20-7 victory on Saturday. Austin Appleby got the start and completed 17 of his 21 attempts for 201 yards and two scores, while Jordan Scarlett added 134 yards on the ground. Florida’s defense gave up just 43 rushing yards to the Gamecocks, keeping the visitors one-dimensional on offense and never allowing them to gain any momentum.
Though the Gators fell out of the College Football Playoff rankings last week after losing to Arkansas, Jim McElwain’s team remained in the AP Top 25 and could return to the CFP list this week as well. They remain atop the SEC East, and a win against LSU next week in Baton Rouge would guarantee Florida’s spot in the SEC championship game in Atlanta on the first weekend of December. Though the playoff bracket is probably out of reach for the Gators, a New Year’s Six berth is well within reach.
