College Football Rankings 2016: Projected AP Top 25 after Week 12
By Zach Bigalke
West Virginia’s touted defense had no answers for Oklahoma on snowy Saturday night in Morgantown. Justin Crawford was the lone bright spot on offense, as he gashed the Sooners for nearly 300 yards. But West Virginia couldn’t hold on to the football, coughing up one fumble after another, and undisciplined play further hampered the Mountaineers. WVU tried to pull things back in the second half, but Oklahoma kept pace and time ran out on the Mountaineers’ dreams.
The loss at home to the Sooners officially knocked West Virginia out of the running for the Big 12 title, but there is still plenty to play for this season. If the Mountaineers close out the year victorious over Iowa State and Baylor to reach 10 wins, they will certainly put their way high enough in the Top 25 to garner serious consideration for one of the Big 12’s spots in a New Year’s Six bowl. While the conference slipped away from Dana Holgorsen’s team, there is still plenty to play for in Morgantown in 2016.
