College Football Rankings 2016: Projected AP Top 25 after Week 12
By Zach Bigalke
The result was never in doubt against Buffalo, as Western Michigan shook off a scoreless first quarter to dominate the Bulls in victory on Saturday. The WMU defense held Buffalo under 300 total yards of offense, while Zach Terrell threw for over 400 yards and four scores. Corey Davis kept up his challenge for All-American honors with 173 receiving yards and two of Terrell’s four TD passes. The Bronco offense piled up more than twice as many yards on offense as Buffalo to reach 11 wins.
A win over the Bulls won’t move the needle enough for the College Football Playoff committee to bump Western Michigan over Boise State in their rankings this week. But the Broncos from Kalamazoo look like they could rise into the top dozen of the AP Top 25 this week after the other results of Week 12. Though they are one of just two FBS teams to remain unbeaten through 11 games, it would take an avalanche of upsets next week for P.J. Fleck’s team to make the playoff. But it would be hard to justify rejecting WMU in favor of Boise State for the Cotton Bowl if they emerge as a 13-0 MAC champion.
