Only two teams have a shot at winning the C-USA East title in 2016 — either an upstart or the defending champ. Western Kentucky knocked off Old Dominion back on October 22, winning 59-24 at home to take the pole position in the division race. Yet the Hilltoppers haven’t been able to completely seal the deal in the East, as the Monarchs have held serve and have forced WKU to keep winning. A year after breezing to the C-USA crown, nothing has been easy this season for the Hilltoppers.

If both teams win this weekend, Western Kentucky will represent the East in the C-USA championship game thanks to the head-to-head tiebreaker over the Monarchs. If WKU manages to lose in Huntington against Marshall, though, it will be Old Dominion playing Louisiana Tech for the championship. All the Monarchs have to do is knock off 4-7 Florida International this weekend to remain in the hunt. Neither is likely to garner much attention as an Access Bowl candidate, but they can still play spoiler.
