College Football Rankings 2016: Projected AP Top 25 after Week 13
By Zach Bigalke
Florida was guaranteed a spot in Atlanta for the SEC championship game, but it was hoping to end the regular season on a high note after losing one data point due to Hurricane Matthew. The Gators instead went to Tallahassee and laid an egg against rival Florida State, sustaining their third loss of the season in the process. Austin Appleby threw for just 149 yards and sustained six sacks, while the Seminoles allowed little more than 200 total yards of offense to the Gators. Their only touchdown came on a fumble recovery return.
But the Gators have little time to remain disappointed, as they have to turn around and get ready for Alabama next week. If the Gators were to knock off the Crimson Tide in a colossal upset, it would guarantee them a spot in the Sugar Bowl. Should Jim McElwain’s team lose as expected, though, they are likely going to miss out on a New Year’s Six spot altogether. Florida won’t drop too far down the AP Top 25 after losing to another ranked team this weekend, but not even an SEC championship would get them into the playoff field.
