College Football Rankings 2016: Projected AP Top 25 after Week 13
By Zach Bigalke
The Mountaineers won’t have a shot at playing for the Big 12 title after their losses to Oklahoma State and Oklahoma. But Dana Holgorsen’s team still has a shot at reaching ten wins in the regular season after taking down Iowa State in Ames on Saturday. Skyler Howard threw for 330 yards and five touchdowns, while Martell Pettaway rushed for 181 yards and a score. The West Virginia defense gave up over 550 yards to the Cyclones, but they held the Iowa State offense out of the end zone on all but a kickoff return.
Now West Virginia turns its attention to a Baylor team that has been treading water around .500 all season. If the Mountaineers beat the Bears, they’ll reach 10 wins and put themselves in position for a New Year’s Six berth. They should manage to move up a few spots in the AP Top 25 and the College Football Playoff rankings this week, but without the chance of a conference title there is a definite ceiling for WVU as they enter December play.
