Boise State ended any chance of playing for the Mountain West title this season when they fell 27-20 at Air Force on Black Friday. The Broncos were unable to get much momentum on offense, holding the ball for just 18:33 and mustering only 12 first downs. Brett Rypien threw for 316 yards and a touchdown, but he completed just nine of his 26 passing attempts. Jeremy McNichols was held under 100 rushing yards for the first time in seven games, and probably killed any lingering chance at a Heisman invite in the process.

The Broncos will once again miss out on a major bowl game after earning the first Access Bowl berth in the College Football Playoff era. Bryan Harsin’s team will head to either Las Vegas or Honolulu instead of the Cotton Bowl, as the Mountain West battle for the Group of Five’s automatic New Year’s Six bid now rests on the shoulderes of San Diego State and Wyoming. Boise State will probably remain in the AP Top 25 this week, but they are likely to fall completely out of the CFP rankings when they are released on Tuesday.
