College Football Rankings 2016: Projected AP Top 25 after Week 13
By Zach Bigalke
Auburn fell as expected in the Iron Bowl on Saturday, keeping things close in the first half before the Crimson Tide pulled away in the third quarter. The Tigers were held under 200 total yards of offense, finishing with just seven first downs and holding the ball for fewer than 20 minutes of possession. In total, Gus Malzahn’s team was able to get off just 45 plays as Alabama strangled the life out of their rivals.
Auburn will probably remain in the AP Top 25 this week given that their loss came to the top team in the country. They finished ahead of LSU in the SEC West thanks to their head-to-head win in late September, a win that ended Les Miles’ tenure in Baton Rouge, and we project that the team from the Plains will probably remain ahead of the Bayou Bengals when the AP poll comes out on Sunday. They are probably out of the running for a New Year’s Six berth at this point, but Malzahn still got himself off the hot seat this year after a 1-2 start.
