College Football Rankings 2016: Projected AP Top 25 after Week 13
By Zach Bigalke
The Midshipmen were already locked into the AAC championship game, but they kept themselves in the running for a New Year’s Six bowl berth by easily snagging their ninth win of the season over SMU in a 44-point rout on Saturday. Will Worth completed five of seven passes for 104 yards and a score, while rushing for another 107 yards and three touchdowns. Zach Abey also rushed for over 100 yards, finishing with 111 and a score, while Toney Gulley had three rushing TDs. The Mustangs finished with over 400 yards of offense, but needed nearly ten more minutes of possession to pile up that yardage.
Should Navy win the AAC title, the College Football Playoff will be left with a quandary. Would they elevate Ken Niumatalolo’s team above the other Group of Five champions before they finish their regular-season schedule with the Army-Navy Game in Philadelphia on Heisman Saturday. While they will remain at least a half-dozen spots behind Western Michigan in the AP Top 25, Navy could be a threat to the Broncos in the CFP rankings after seeing how both Houston and Boise State were rated ahead of WMU.
