5 College Football programs that need a big National Signing Day
5. Michigan State Spartans
Michigan State’s 3-9 season was definitely unexpected, but with a letdown year like that, Mark Dantonio needs to put together a solid recruiting class to make up for it. Right now, he has to feel lucky that no 2017 commits have reopened their recruitment, but he still needs to add a couple more top targets.
The class is almost full after flipping Georgia Southern commit Tre Person, Boston College pledge DeAri Todd, Temple commit Raheem Blackshear and landing former Ohio State verbal pledge Antjuan Simmons over the past couple of weeks. There are still a number of names left on the board who Dantonio needs to land to remain afloat in the team rankings.
The Spartans are currently ranked No. 32 in team recruiting class rankings and as the sixth-best Big Ten team.
Oliver Martin leads the way as the Spartans’ top remaining target as the four-star Iowa City receiver is also being courted by Michigan, Iowa, Ohio State and Notre Dame. He took an official to East Lansing a couple of weeks ago with good friend and 2017 MSU commit Rocky Lombardi.
Ameer Speed, a three-star cornerback from Jacksonville, is also high on the list of priorities and Michigan State was named as one of his top five schools. The Spartans are a long shot to land him, but he is high on the board regardless.
Three-star athlete Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah is down to Michigan State and Notre Dame and the Spartans are hoping to close on one of the biggest targets left. If they can hold off the Fighting Irish, that would be a major win.
Keep an eye on Mekhi Becton, Naytron Culpepper, Johnathan Lovett, Koby Cumberlander, Lionel Cummings and Emmanuel Flowers as well.
