3. Texas Longhorns

Tom Herman’s first recruiting class with the Texas Longhorns could go a long way in deciding how his coaching career in Austin will play out. Sure, losing Charlie Strong may have led to some concerned commits, but he has done a solid job of reassuring them that he believes the class is headed in the right direction.

Currently, 247Sports has the Longhorns’ 2017 class ranked No. 25 overall which is surprisingly second in the Big 12. There’s still an opportunity to move up the ranks by National Signing Day and it would be Texas’ second solid haul by the deadline.

One major name on the board for the Longhorns is Kary Vincent, a four-star cornerback from Port Arthur, Texas, who is committed to LSU. There has been talk about him potentially flipping to Texas and that would be huge for the Longhorns.

Another would be five-star defensive end K’Lavon Chaisson from Houston, Texas, who Herman originally recruited while still coaching the Cougars. He’s ranked the No. 11 overall prospect and third-best weak-side defensive end in the class, according to 247Sports.

Four-star Dallas cornerback Chevin Calloway is still on the board even though he’s leaning elsewhere. Ryan Johnson, a four-star defensive end from Alabama, will be choosing between Texas, Auburn and Stanford. Austin’s own Stephan Zadie, a four-star offensive tackle, is down to UCLA, Texas and Oklahoma with the Longhorns presumably leading.

Some other names to watch are Bryan Jones, Jordan Pouncey, Amik Robertson and Javelin Guidry. This class could finish strong, to say the least.
