This marked head coach Mike Leach’s first Apple Cup.

Down 28-10 in the fourth quarter, it appeared the Huskies would win a fourth straight game in the series. Washington running back Bishop Sankey scored two touchdowns for the Huskies during the third quarter.

The Cougars scored early in the fourth quarter, the cut the lead to 28-17. Washington turned the ball over and Washington State took advantage with an ensuing touchdown and successful two-point conversion.

Washington State kicker Andrew Furney was the hero of the game for the Cougars. He made a 45-yard field goal to tie the game. Meanwhile, Washington kicker Travis Coons missed a 35-yard attempt to send the game into overtime.

After the defense came up with an interception to give the Cougars’ offense great field position, Furney hit the game-winning 27-yard field goal. The 2012 game stands as the biggest comeback in series history.
