The Florida State Seminoles have won seven straight games against the Miami Hurricanes dating back to the 2009 season. The Hurricanes came close to victory last season but fell short by a point, 20-19. Truth be told, Miami’s kicker missed the extra point after the team got within one point with 1:38 remaining in the game.

The Hurricanes led for much of the game, including 13-3 at halftime, before falling in the closing seconds. In what is sure to be a defensive battle, the game could come down to the final drive again in 2017.

Miami gave up 17 points in the second half, something their defense will look to do less of this season. They return eight starters from that unit, so they’ll have the experience of last season’s bitter defeat on their mind.

The Seminoles return nine starters on defense on the other side including safety Derwin James. Other than James, the Florida State defensive line should have their way with the Miami offensive line all game long.

With a question mark at starting quarterback, it’s hard to predict the Hurricanes coming out on top here. It will be another close game, but the Hurricanes won’t come out on top just yet. The Seminoles have a College Football Playoff bid to earn.

Final: Florida St 24, Miami 21 (2-1, 0-1 ACC)
