Darnold was slightly better in completion percentage, but Browning had a slightly better quarterback rating. On the whole, he threw more passing yards and passing touchdowns while throwing the same amount of interceptions (9).
During Darnold’s 10 starts, USC averaged 38.6 points per game. Meanwhile, Washington averaged 41. 8 points per game.
Still, all of the Heisman talk surrounds Darnold. Darnold put on a spectacular display in the Rose Bowl and really, throughout the 2016 season. However, there should be plenty of room in the conversation for Browning — and he just might work his way into that conversation by the end of the season.
Browning threw for 150 yards or more in every game in the 2016 season except against Colorado in the Pac-12 Championship Game. Admittedly, Browning faltered down the stretch of 2016 and later, the public found out why: Browning had a shoulder injury that required surgery in January.
