Stanford opened its season a week earlier than most contenders in the AP Top 25, playing Rice all the way across the Pacific at Allianz Stadium in Sydney, Australia. The Cardinal began life after Christian McCaffrey with a bang, scoring over 60 points for the first time since 2013. It was a dominant offensive performance that will put all other PAC-12 contenders on notice.

Bryce Love rushed for 180 yards on just 13 carries and scored a touchdown. Spelling Love was Cameron Scarlett, who had a 56-yard catch and added 59 yards and three touchdowns on eight rushes. The tandem accounted for nearly 300 yards, and the trio of quarterbacks threw for 369 yards and three more scores.

It was a blowout in every respect. The Owls were held under 100 passing yards, and rushed for under 150 yards. Stanford’s defense generated two turnovers in addition to preventing positive plays. Next week the level of competition increases in a conference showdown against top-five USC.
