In its home opener on Saturday, Kansas State found itself in a bit of a pickle against an opponent from the FCS. For the first quarter and a half, Central Arkansas held serve against the Wildcats. After one quarter the game was tied 10-10 on the scoreboard. When K-State marched downfield on the opening drive of the second quarter to make it 17-10, the Bears turned around and scored their own touchdown.

But a missed extra point seemed to kill the magic in the upset bid, and Central Arkansas only got one more field goal for the rest of the game. Kansas State’s defense gave up over 400 yards to the Bears, though, a disconcerting reality for Bill Snyder’s defensive staff. They will need to shore up their deficiencies over the next few weeks against Charlotte and Vanderbilt ahead of Big 12 play.

They aren’t going to climb any in this week’s AP Top 25, but Kansas State should hold firm on their position at No. 20. A fluctuation of one or two spots up or down (most likely down) is also possible, though less likely.
