Colorado beat Colorado State 17-3, who beat Oregon State 58-27. Therefore, Colorado is likely much better than Oregon State. I go through that logic because the Buffaloes where not particularly impressive offensively. Sophomore quarterback Steven Montez finished with a lowly 46.9 quarterback rating. The defense however picked up from where it left off last season. In fact, the Buffaloes were stingy and aggressive. Colorado should roll in next week.

Week 2 opponent: Texas State

How on earth did Utah fall three spots in the power rankings after a win? Well, that happens when you don’t dominate North Dakota, and the teams behind you have better performances. The Utes’ newest player, Darren Carrington, did not disappoint, though. He finished with 10 catches for 127 yards and a touchdown. He adds a much-needed explosive element to the Utes’ offense. Utah will have a chance to move up in the rankings next week.

Week 2 opponent: at BYU

Oregon started the 2017 season off with a bang. The Ducks returned the opening kickoff for a touchdown and it immediately energized the team. Southern Utah was outmatched and overwhelmed by Oregon.

The offense, led by Royce Freeman, moved fast and scored quickly, to the tune of 77 points, just like the Chip Kelly days. Fans are hopeful in Eugene, but Week 2 will give everyone a good indication where the ceiling is for the Ducks.

Week 2 opponent: Nebraska

Luke Falk nearly had a perfect passing day. He threw for over 300 yards and three touchdowns. The offense was explosive and crisp. Everyone is well aware of how dangerous the Cougars are passing the football. The defense, however, is underrated. The defensive line look undersized, but they rush the quarterback well and are stout against the run. I am cautiously optimistic about a huge upside for Mike Leach’s team.

Week 2 opponent: Boise State
