SEC Football Power Rankings 2017: Week 4 Edition
South Carolina seemed like the biggest lock to win this weekend. But the game proved once again why teams play,a and games aren’t played on paper. The Gamecocks lost but that wasn’t even their biggest loss of the night. Deebo Samuel, the Gamecocks best offensive weapon went down with a broken leg and could be out for the remainder of the season.
Samuel’s injury will be a massive one to overcome. Samuel was an all around threat and a favorite target for quarterback Jake Bentley. Most surprising in this game was the South Carolina defense. The Gamecocks had no answer for Snell Jr. who had over 100 yards rushing and the aforementioned two touchdowns. South Carolina had been pretty good on defense in the first two games, for whatever reason they just didn’t have it against Kentucky. The Gamecocks get a chance to get things fixed next week against Louisiana Tech.
Wow. What a way to win a game. I was watching thinking this game was headed to overtime. I figured Florida might try a quick out route to set up a long field goal. Boy was I wrong. Feliepe Franks let it rip and Tyree Cleveland made the catch of his life.
There is really no way to understate what this game could do for the Gators throughout the rest of the season. It gives confidence to an offense that to this point and for most of the game against Tennessee, had not been relevant. The Gators defense is great. They only gave up points because they we’re on the field most of the game. They also scored their third pick-six of the season against Tennessee. If the offense can take that momentum and turn it into steady progression from here on out, then Florida might very well win the East again.
