2. Does Ed Orgeron know what he’s doing?

Syracuse is a member of the ACC. Technically. That said, this wasn’t the Clemson Tigers or even the NC State Wolfpack that came to Tiger Stadium on Saturday night. The Orange, led by head coach Dino Babers, can’t sniff the level of talent that LSU has on its roster.

Why then, was LSU leading by just three points in the final minutes of the fourth quarter? It could be, at least in part, because Orgeron has forgotten to give the ball to the best player in the stadium that night, Derrius Guice. A future first round pick, Guice continues to follow in the footsteps of previous LSU rusher Leonard Fournette. He’s already set and broken the single game rushing record for a team that’s known for their prowess on the ground.

With the Tigers and Orange locked in a one possession game, Guice had just eight touches for 14 yards. He left the game midway through the third quarter, but there were plenty of opportunities to get him the ball before that. Syracuse entered the game as the No. 10 rushing defense in the nation. That sounds impressive, and they’re going to be strong against the run this year, but here’s the list of previous opponents: Central Connecticut, Middle Tennessee and Central Michigan.

There’s no excuse for ignoring your best player. He’s either healthy enough to play or he isn’t. He suited up on Saturday and Orgeron barely used him. If this continues into conference play Coach O is going to get some very loud complaints.
