College Football Rankings 2017: Projected Week 5 AP Top 25 Poll
By Zach Bigalke
After losing the season opener against Virginia Tech, West Virginia has now won three straight after taking down Kansas by 22 in Big 12 play on Saturday. For the third game in a row, the Mountaineers scored 56 points. Will Grier led the way with 347 passing yards and two touchdowns.
Justin Crawford and Kennedy McKoy also ran for over 100 yards apiece for West Virginia in the blowout win. They are now 1-0 in conference play and look increasingly like a threat to challenge the favorites in the Big 12 this season. Dana Holgorsen’s offense rolled up over 600 yards of offense in the runaway win on the road.
While West Virginia will jump back into the AP Top 25 this week, one point of concern for the Mountaineers is their defense. Kansas managed to rack up over 500 yards of offense and 34 points on West Virginia. Holgorsen’s crew will not remain in the polls for long if they continue to give up big yardage and high scores to the other Big 12 contenders in league play.
