WR Cam Phillips, Virginia Tech

Virginia Tech Hokies wide receiver Cam Phillips has made life for redshirt freshman quarterback Josh Jackson pretty easy. Jackson, in his first year as starter, has thrown 11 touchdowns in 2017 and a lot of them have gone to Phillips.

Phillips has 34 receptions for 523 receiving yards and five receiving touchdowns this season. He ranks first in the FBS and the ACC in receiving yards and ties for fifth in the FBS and ACC in receiving touchdowns. He ranks third in the FBS in receiving yards per game (130.8).

The Hokies are 4-0 with a big game looming this Saturday against No. 2 Clemson. Phillips will be looked upon to have a spectacular performance. In their last meeting, he caught 12 receptions for 92 yards and a touchdown.

QB Kurt Benkert, Virginia

The Virginia Cavaliers have been a surprise in the ACC this season at 3-1. Quarterback Kurt Benkert, a former ECU Pirate, has a lot to do with their turnaround.

Benkert has bounced back after throwing for 11 interceptions in 2016. This season, he’s thrown for 1,249 passing yards, 10 passing touchdowns and just one interception. He’s averaging 312.3 passing yards per game through Week 4.

Benkert ranks second in the ACC in passing yards so far. He threw for 273 passing yards and three passing touchdowns in a rare 42-23 road victory over the Boise State Broncos. It was the Broncos worst home loss since 2009.

The Cavaliers are off this week before hosting Duke on Oct. 7.
