5. Ole Miss is still shell-shocked

In case you have missed the absolutely soul-crushing string of victories that have been ripped off by the Alabama Crimson Tide, you might want to familiarize yourself with the box score from their win over Ole Miss last weekend. As if that wasn’t enough, Alabama blanked a decent Vanderbilt team the week before that, winning 59-0 on the road.

The Rebels are the latest in what will likely become a long string of SEC victims of the Crimson Tide. Ole Miss isn’t going to forget getting beat up and down the field for a full four quarters. That’s going to be a loss that sticks with them all season long, and the after effects are going to be noticeable against Auburn on Saturday.

It’s not like Ole Miss got drubbed by a Big 12 offense that completed a dozen go routes for a ridiculous amount of passing yards. Alabama physically dominated this team, winning the battle in the trenches and at the line of scrimmage. Shea Patterson and the rest of the Ole Miss offense are still feeling some of those hard hits.

Up until last week there was some hope that Ole Miss was going to be able to compete in the SEC West. Now they know they’re a long ways off from that end. With no bowl to hope for, it’s hard to imagine the Rebels will be recovered in time for Auburn.
