D+. . DB. Louisville. DEFENSIVE BACK

Louisville is ranked 88th in passing yards this season currently at 238.7 yards per game. That isn’t terrible considering how spread open the college game is today, but the considering part is when they play top-tier teams they give up more than that average and by a lot and because of that they will get docked on my grading scale.

The Clemson and NC State games being weighed heavily, Clemson threw for 316 yards at Papa John’s Stadium and NC State threw for 367 yards against this same secondary. I know it isn’t totally on the secondary, because linebackers nowadays are a part of coverage too, but the back four or five are the keys.

Senior cornerback Trumaine Johnson leads the team in pass breakups, with five. This group as a whole only has four interceptions, so not many plays are being made on the back end.

Defensive back Zykiesis Cannon leads the team in tackles, with 37.

Senior safety Chucky Williams is fourth on the team with 27 tackles. He also has an interception and a forced fumble.

Junior cornerback Jaire Alexander has only played two games so far so his return will strengthen this unit. He is labeled as a first-round prospect in this upcoming NFL draft if he wants to take advantage.
