Florida State Football: Can the Seminoles earn a bowl bid?
By Shane Lunnen
Is a bowl possible for Florida State?
Heading into the game at Boston College Friday night, a bowl bid was an uphill climb for the Seminoles but still possible. During the game, they seemed uninterested in playing catch up once the Eagles were up 21-0 about midway through the second quarter. After getting blown out 35-3 by the Eagles, who had not beaten the Seminoles since 2009, there is a now a mountain the size of Everest in front of Florida State.
At 2-5, Florida State will have to win their remaining four games to gain bowl eligibility. Looking at their schedule, I don’t see how it will happen. They return home next Saturday to take on Syracuse who already beat Clemson and is trying to gain bowl eligibility themselves. The following Saturday they travel to Death Valley to take on Clemson. Before the season, everyone looked at this game to determine the ACC Atlantic champion. Now the game’s only question will be how long can the Seminoles stay in the game.

Florida State does get a reprieve with a home game against Delaware State, but this could be their only victory in November. They finish the regular season at Florida. A rivalry game means anything could happen and the Gators have their own troubles this season. But right now the edge has to go to Florida being at home. The Gators will also probably be fighting for their own bowl berth.
The one possibility of Florida State getting into a bowl even if they are under .500 is if there are not enough eligible teams to fill all the spots. Then the Seminoles may get in with their APR scores, but I would consider this a long shot since at minimum they would have to be 5-6. The cancelled game against Louisiana-Monroe because of Hurricane Irma looms large now.
