College Football Playoff 2017: Case for the TCU Horned Frogs
By Shane Lunnen
Case against TCU
If TCU loses to Oklahoma, whether it is in their regular season match-up or in the conference title game, they are done. It’s doubtful the committee will select a two loss team. Even against other two loss teams, their resume would probably not hold up.
Notre Dame is the big road block for the Power 5 conferences right now. We all know the SEC will have one team in the playoff, maybe even two if things fall right. As long as the Fighting Irish keep winning, they will not be held out of the playoff, even without a conference championship. Notre Dame is effectively blocking at least two Power 5 conferences from getting a spot as it stands now.
The Horned Frogs need some help. Having Notre Dame lose would be great for starters and open the door for not only the Big 12, but the Big 10 and Pac-12 as well. TCU could also use a loss by Wisconsin as it looks like the only way the Badgers make the playoff is if they go undefeated. Their schedule is too weak to get in unless undefeated and with a conference championship.
The Horned Frogs are also being hindered by their weak non-conference schedule. Oklahoma beat Ohio State on the road. TCU’s Power 5 victory was over 4-5 Arkansas, a team in a lot of turmoil right now. Compared to other one loss teams, TCU would probably be left out on their strength of schedule.
