SEC Football Power Rankings 2017: Auburn jumps in Week 12
Oh what could have been for the Bulldogs. Mississippi State looked like they just might get that upset over Alabama but the defense got caught blitzing at the wrong time. In all honesty it was a good performance for the Bulldogs but they didn’t handle the moment. Alabama did and that is why the Crimson Tide walked away the victor.
Mississippi State did elevate themselves in the rankings to show that they are one of the best in the SEC this season. The defense is improved and gave Alabama a lot trouble. Nick Fitzgerald is an offensive force and did his best to win that game for the Bulldogs. The road gets a little easier for Mississippi State as they take on Arkansas next week before heading home for the Egg Bowl against their hated rival, Ole Miss.
Georgia finally faced a team that had the defensive line prowess to shut down the Bulldogs rushing offense and that was exactly what happened. When Nick Chubb only has 27 yards rushing, as the leading rusher, you know that the game wasn’t going to go Georgia’s way. Credit should however go to freshman quarterback jake Fromm who handled himself well in this game with no turnovers. This was going to be a tough game for Georgia, I just don’t think anyone expected them to get blown out the way they did.
From here Georgia is guaranteed a spot in the SEC title game in which they’ll face either Alabama or Auburn. The Bulldogs still have plenty to play for as their playoff hopes are still alive but they’ll have to regroup and get ready to face Kentucky this week, a game that cannot be overlooked by the Bulldogs. The defense will have to be ready for a steady dose of Benny Snell Jr. as the Wildcats will be sure to run the ball after seeing what Kerryon Johnson did to the Georgia defense.
